It's a slightly complex story, but we almost ignored Colorado! Our plan was to have a 'day plus' in Rocky Mountain National Park ... about 100km North and West of Denver. But it rained heavily the day we drove from Cedar City Utah to Grand Junction Colorado. We hoped to spend a couple of hours on the Grand Mesa, near Grand Junction, photographing aspen. The rain finished that idea, and we were a bit tired, and then we learned that the Ridge Road in RMNP was closed for the season (snow) so we decided just to start for home. The next day (Tuesday Oct 2) we started driving through the mountains to Denver. At Vail the scenery was terrific ... cold, snow-capped mountains and all that ... so we changed our minds again and decided that we would get to Rocky Mountain NP after all! So we drove the winding road to the park, and the temperature kept rising, and finally got to 17C as we got there about 3.00 pm. The only snow was on the peaks! We drove through the park, saw lots of elk, photographed the peaks and some aspen and said 'that's it ... tomorrow we do head home'. This is posted the next night from Grand Island, Nebraska. We are on our way home , and the temperature got to 29C as we drove across Interstate 80 today.
